About Me

Hello and welcome to my shop, The Opal Lotus! 

My name is Avery. I am 26 years old and live in Arizona. I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college in South Carolina. In college I studied psychology and earned my B.S. degree in 2017. I currently work full time as a social worker at an outpatient mental health clinic alongside running my small business!

While I was in college I met my boyfriend, Sam. Sam grew up in AZ and ever sine we met was always keen on moving back. Once I graduated we decided that moving here would be our next big adventure! We live here now with our two pups, Samson and Olive, and I have never felt more at home! I adore the desert and we love to spend our free time outside hiking, traveling, trying new things, and going on adventures! 

I have always been fascinated by crystals. When I was a teenager I started wire wrapping but unfortunately gave up after feeling like I couldn't get the hang of it. At that time in my life I had a dream of opening up a little shop to sell crystals, jewelry, and other things that fascinated me. Although my life traveled down a different path and career choice, I eventually found myself itching to get back to my true dream. 

I picked up wire wrapping again in November of 2019 and this time I stuck with it. A few months after, I opened my first shop - Opalescent by Ave - which was geared towards selling my handmade jewelry. Over the next 10 months my business grew and changed, and I was no longer selling just jewelry. I began to feel that my shop name no longer fit.

Eventually, I settled on the name 'The Opal Lotus' and my new shop was born. This name means a lot to me for many reasons. It still encompasses my old shop name and my favorite crystal: the opal. Opals are said to enhance our cosmic consciousness, induce creativity, and also provide protection. My shop is also named after the lotus flower which is my favorite flower. The lotus places it's roots in the mud, and then climbs upward through the water to bloom and rest on the surface, making it a symbol for resiliency, strength, and new beginnings. 

Here at The Opal Lotus, I strive to bring you high quality and ethically sourced crystals, jewelry that has been handmade with the wearer in mind, and other unique goods from around the world.
